On Wednesday, 10 April BritCham and OCAJI (Overseas Construction Association of Japan Inc.) held a seminar on international construction legal in SATOO Garden, Shangri-La Jakarta.
Represented by Nobuaki Tamaki (Manager, Overseas Operations Division) from OCAJI, and Taisuke Suzuki (Deputy General Manager, Overseas Operations Division) and in cooperation with UK Export Finance, represented by Richard Michael (Country Head, Indonesia).
The seminar also featuring experts across the industries in infrastructure sector to provide their perspectives and experiences on large scale projects in South East Asia:
Pinsent Masons (represented by Nicholas Brown – Partner and Karah Howard – Senior Associate): Full service international law firm with offices across the UK, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia. Have a strong track record of working in Indonesia’s energy and infrastructure sectors, particularly on transport and oil and gas projects.
Ankura (Represented by David Court – Managing Partner): Ankura Consulting Group, LLC provides business advisory and expert services. The company offers services in the areas of analytics and digital transformation, cybersecurity, economics and statistics, intellectual property, investigations and accounting advisory, investment banking, litigation/arbitration and disputes, risk management and compliance advisory, strategy and performance, transaction advisory services, and turnaround and restructuring. Arup (Represented by Michael McGowan, Director and Charles Im, Associate Principal): Arup is an independent firm of designers, planners, engineers, consultants and technical specialists working across every aspect of today’s built environment.
Mott MacDonald (represented by Nick Osborne and Irawan Tani, Senior Project Manager): We’re a global engineering, management and development consultancy focused on guiding our clients through many of the planet’s most intricate challenges.
The first session started with a presentation by Richard Michael with valuable insight into the various forms to support infrastructure project financing in Indonesia that are available through the UK’s export credit agency, UK Export Finance. The session then followed by a presentation from Pinsent Masons and Ankura on “Optimal Claims Strategies in Indonesian Infrastructure Projects including under the FIDIC 2017 Second Editions”.
The seminar ended with a presentation on “The Jakarta JICA MRT experiences” that described Mott MacDonald’s experience with the JICA-funded Jakarta MRT, and Arup’s broader regional experience of collaboration with Japanese construction companies on Mass Rapid Transit projects in SEA.
