Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno will accelerate the travel bubble scheme in Bali. The plan has been discussed together with Foreign Affairs Minister, Health Minister, Law and Human Rights Minister, as well as the Covid-19 Task Force Chief.
“We have to realize the travel bubble scheme soon,” he said in a written statement on Thursday, Feb. 11.
A travel bubble is an agreement between two or more countries to open up their borders for travel in the set destinations. It means that tourists can only go to certain destinations that are set in the scheme.
To realize the plan, Sandiaga is coordinating with Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) and Bali Provincial Government, saying that the concept will be ‘Covid-free Corridors.’
One of the requirements of opening the Bali borders for international tourists is the travelers must be inoculated with the Covid-19 vaccine. Therefore, as a preparation, Sandi asked for the tourism sector to be disciplined in implementing the clean, healthy, safety, and environmental sustainability (CHSE) protocols.
The former Jakarta Deputy Governor hopes that in 2021, the Bali economy will start to recover through innovation, adaptation, and collaboration.
Besides, the minister also reassured that the government will provide a good stimulus in the form of credit or labor-intensive programs. Sandiaga Uno also hoped the businesses in the sector will be prioritized for covid vaccination.
