  • What is BritCham Business Centre?

    • We are a business unit within BritCham Indonesia, which is a delivery partner of the Department for International Trade (DIT) at the British Embassy Jakarta. Our main focus is to assist British companies and institutions that are looking to expand their presence in the Indonesian market. Our assistance spans across all sectors, particularly Business-to-Business (B2B) relations.

  • If I am a British business, how can BritCham Business Centre help me export?

    • We can support you through various bespoke assistances that suit your requirements best, such as: market research, visit programme, trade show/ exhibition assistance and event management. If your most preferred type of assistance is not listed, feel free to contact us to see how we can assist you best.

  • What is a “visit programme”?

    • Visit programme is one of our market access supports in which we create a bespoke meetings itinerary with potential local partners based on your requirements. The only thing you need to do is share us your wish list, hop on a plane to Indonesia and be present in the meetings!

  • During the Covid-19 pandemic where I am not allowed to travel, can I still have productive meetings with potential local partners?

    • Yes, we can assist you in meeting potential local partners virtually. It is however not the common norm in Indonesian business culture. When circumstances finally allow international travels, you can start developing the relationship on a physical term, for relationship building through numerous visits is essential in Indonesian business culture.

  • If I am representing a trade association/ group, how can we collaborate with BritCham Business Centre?

  • What type of legal entity do I need for doing business in Indonesia?

    • The options are: Established Foreign Company (PT PMA—Penanaman Modal Asing) that allows you to generate revenue, profit or engage in sales directly in Indonesia, Representative Office if want to explore business opportunities in Indonesia for your foreign company (through market research, networking, etc.) without engaging in commercial transactions and Local Partner/ Distributor as your in-market representative who will handle your administrative works and commercial transactions in Indonesia.

  • What is the “Negative List” in Indonesia?

    • The “Negative List” is a set of business sectors list that let investors, know which is okay to invest plus its regulation, especially regarding shared ownership. However, over time this investment list may change to be adjusted with government’s regulations.   • Will language barrier hinder my market access journey into Indonesia?

    • Although English is not the first language in Indonesia, most businesses located in capital cities, such as Jakarta, Bandung and Surabaya have business-level of English proficiency. However for meetings with state-owned enterprises and government institutions ideally an Indonesian representative should be present.
