The Nusantara Capital Authority (OIKN) has assisted 796 local players of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Indonesia’s new capital Nusantara to seize business opportunities there.
This was conveyed by OIKN Deputy for Sociocultural and Community Empowerment Alimudin at ASN Festival 2024 in Jakarta on Saturday.
“MSMEs are the soko guru (main pillar or supporter) of our economy there,” he remarked.
According to him, the assistance was provided because MSMEs have an important role in supporting and maintaining the stability of a country’s economic growth. To this end, it is deemed essential to prepare them to become the main players in Nusantara.
“What did we provide? of course, we adjusted it to the potentials that they have,” he said.
He noted that empowerment efforts are not given top-down, but by considering the needs and the potentials of the residents first.
The assistance is given until MSMEs have a strong competitiveness in the market by focusing on improving skills, knowledge, and local economic potentials so that they can contribute significantly to economic growth and stability in the new capital.
According to Alimudin, most of the assisted MSMEs are from the food sector, reaching almost 70 percent of total MSMEs.
He underlined that the biggest challenge is changing the mindset of the community in facing changes that will occur in the new capital area as they require all parties, both local communities and those who will move there, to adapt.
The OIKN is also preparing the local residents and customary communities to face big transformation that will occur in Nusantara by providing special training and assistance.
